Report: New England Patriots Cut Offensive Lineman

The New England Patriots made yet another move in the offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick spent a lot of time in the office and he worked really hard. The legendary coach brought a lot of valuable players to New England and his 2021 roster looks amazing. But, the Patriots decided to cut one of their players and released a lineman.

Dustin Woodard. Do you know him? Most of you don’t.

The 23-year-old took a different path in the NFL. The Patriots signed the offensive lineman in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Woodard joined the Patriots for training camp and retired August 14.

Patriots cut a talented lineman

The team reinstated Woodard to the active roster last week. Interesting, right? That’s not all. On Friday afternoon, the Patriots waived him. The team announced the move and confirmed the re-signing of J.C. Jackson in the same statement.

Woodard retired, unretired and got waived. It’s more than obvious that the Patriots didn’t want him back. The team didn’t welcome the offensive lineman to the roster. We don’t have much information about the moves Belichick made. The man is full of surprises.

The Patriots made so many moves in the last couple of weeks. Their offensive line looks different and the defense is pretty tough, too. There was almost zero chance for Woodard to make the roster. He is a talented player and other NFL teams may show interest in his service.

New England is getting ready for the 2021 NFL Draft. The team has sent his staff to scout prospects. He watched Justin Fields and Mac Jones. Fields was really great in his Pro Days. Belichick likes him. But, he will have to trade up to get the top prospect. It’s an interesting situation for the Patriots. New England has so many options at the moment.

Belichick made a move and he will follow a similar pattern in the draft. He was pretty aggressive in free agency. We have every right to say that Belichick will be equally aggressive in the first round of the draft.
