Cam Newton Has Blunt Response To Motivation Question

The New England Patriots decided to trust Cam Newton and his motivation, so they brought him in for another season. The veteran quarterback agreed to another one-year deal with the Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick likes Newton and trusts his football instincts. Newton’s job as a starter is guaranteed at the moment, but he faces serious competition on the field.

The Patriots signed Brian Hoyer to a one-year deal, too, and Jarrett Stidham is under contract with the team. That’s not all. Belichick selected a quarterback with the 15th overall. Mac Jones seems like a good option for the team right now and he can easily snatch the big job at one point of the regular season. Belichick selected Jones for a reason. Many analysts believe he is the quarterback of the future for the Patriots.

Cam Newton has the right motivation to lead the Patriots to the playoffs in 2021

Newton will have to retire at some point of his career. He is aging and players sustain injuries quite often. Belichick is working on his backup plan but Newton is definitely his primary focus.

2020 was a bad year for Newton and the Patriots in general. The 2015 NFL MVP went 7-8 as a starter for the Patriots, and this was his worst season as a passer. Newton is making some changes and Josh McDaniels has noticed a huge improvement in his game. If Newton stays healthy, he will keep his starting job for quite some time.

When asked about his motivation for the 2020 NFL season, Newton provided a blunt response.

Does he feel he has something to prove next season?

“Double duh,” the veteran said.

Newton is facing huge challenge at the moment. A lot of things are working against him right now. NFL analysts agree that 2021 may be Newton’s last season as a starter if he doesn’t improve.

The veteran quarterback signed with the Patriots in July of 2020, agreeing to a minimum deal packed with incentives. As a passer, talented Newton completed 66% of his passes and eight touchdowns. He had 10 interceptions and finished the season with a negative TD:INT ratio for the first time in his NFL career. Newton gave the Patriots 12 touchdowns on the ground. Well, the team finished 27th in points and yards.
