Patriots QB Undergoes Surgery That Will Keep Him Out Extended Period

The New England Patriots brought Jake Dolegala to Foxborough and now they have five quarterbacks on the roster. Well, one Patriots QB had to undergo a surgery and that makes them four healthy signal-callers.

Things look much better for Jarrett Stidham as his back surgery was successful and he recovers well. The young quarterback will miss 12 weeks of action which means he won’t compete for the top job in 2020. Well, he didn’t even have a chance to accomplish a lot in the upcoming season as Bill Belichick is pretty focused on two particular signal callers.

Ian Rapoport from NFL.com confirmed the information.

Stidham didn’t join his teammates for the start of training camp. The team placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Seven other veterans ended up on this list and cornerback Stephon Gilmore is one of them. Some of the players hit the field but didn’t see any action. Stidham didn’t show up at all. NFL analysts started talking about his health condition and there were so many theories.

The Patriots QB to miss a lot of time following his surgery

Cam Newton will probably take the lead in September. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones is right here to challenge him. The first-rounder seems to be the perfect quarterback option for the Patriots. Bill Belichick selected him with No.15 overall. What does that mean? Mac ‘n Cheese is the next franchise quarterback. Yes, that’s what Stidham calls him.

Brian Hoyer is also on the list and he is here to mentor the rookie. There was almost no room for Stidham and now we know why. Hopefully, he will recover well and use his opportunity to shine before it’s too late.

The Patriots made a few moves in the last couple of weeks. Two days ago, the claimed Dolegala off waivers. He spent part of the 2020 NFL season on the Patriots practice unit. He signed a futures deal earlier in 2020, but the team released him. The Green Bay Packers signed Dolegala and former first-rounder Blake Bottles to add depth to their quarterback unit. Veteran Aaron Rodgers reported to training camp earlier this week, and the Packers decided to release both Dolegala and Bortles. Belichick didn’t waste his time and brought Dolegala to New England. He is the fifth quarterback on the Patriots roster. Stidham’s status with the team was pretty shaky and now he is even more shaky.
