Report: Lakers Have Had ‘Talks’ About Trading for Former NBA MVP

The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t defend their title this season. LeBron James and Anthony Davis missed a lot of time due to their injuries. Some of the players had terrible performance and the rest is history. Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns eliminated the Lakers in the first round of the series. General manager Rob Pelinka will have to make some changes. According to recent reports, the Lakers may be interested in trading for a former NBA MVP.

LeBron and AD can win a championship but they could really use an extra couple of hands right now. In other words, the Lakers may be hunting for a third superstar. They won’t get someone like Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard. Some have mentioned CP3, too. What about Russell Westbrook?

The Lakers may be trading for a former MVP

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated reported that the Lakers may be trying to get Westbrook.

“According to sources, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have been on the hunt for veteran point guard, and Paul is on the list. There have also been talks about Washington Wizards star Russell Westbrook being a potential candidate to move back home to Los Angeles in a sign-and-trade deal that could include free agent point guard Dennis Schroder, forward Kyle Kuzma and guard Talen Horton-Tucker, sources said.”

Westbrook is an interesting player. He puts up great numbers but fails to lead his teams to more wins. Westbrook has his struggles, too. He shot 43.7% from the field and only 30.5% from three. A former MVP should do better than this.

If the Lakers do an attempt to get Westbrook, he will have to change the game. He won’t be averaging triple-doubles with LeBron and AD on the roster. He won’t be getting 10+ rebounds this time.

If Westbrook changes his game and makes some sacrifices, the Lakers will have a better chance to win championships.

The Lakers looked really good at the beginning of the regular season. There were several major injuries and the team dropped to No.7 in the West.
