New England Patriots Announce They’ve Released Tight End

The New England Patriots made a few changes in the offseason and now they have released a tight end. Well, they can afford to lose a player on this position. Head coach Bill Belichick struggled at tight end in 2020 and he brought a couple of superstars to strengthen the group. Unfortunately, one of the tight ends had to go.

This is the latest roster decision Belichick made. The Patriots released an official statement confirming that the team has moved on from veteran tight end Troy Fumagalli.

“The New England Patriots announced today that they have released TE Troy Fumagalli (pronounced – foo-mah-GAH-lee),” the statement read. “He was signed by New England as a free agent on May 27, 2021.”

Patriots released a tight end, still have enough depth

NFL experts say Fumagalli as a long shot to make the active roster. The Patriots brought Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith in free agency. New England has a lot of talent on the roster, and it was time for Fumagalli to go.

The Denver Broncos selected the tight end in the 2018 NFL Draft. The former Wisconsin Badgers star saw action in 19 career games with five starts. He stacked 14 receptions for 118 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Fumagalli joined the Houston Texans practice unit after Denver cut him. He became part of the Broncos practice unit in 2020 and we don’t know much about his next move.

Head coach Belichick may have some concerns about his tight end unit. Players sustained injuries in training camp. Losing a star is not an ideal scenario, but Belichick is an optimist. He has a few scenarios on hand.

The Patriots won the first game of the preseason against the Washington Football Team. It’s time to face the Philadelphia Eagles. They had joint practice and the Eagles had better performance. Let’s see what happens Thursday night. It’s an important game for the Patriots. They are meeting a tough opponent.
