Patriots Work Out Four Free Agents

The New England Patriots could really use the help from a few free agents.

Head coach Bill Belichick selected a group of great players in free agency. He also signed a good group of players in the 2021 NFL Draft too.

The Patriots won’t stop here. They have hosted a free agent workout at Gillette Stadium. This time the group featured a familiar name.

Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that the Patriots worked out Jeremiah Dinson, Patrick Onwuasor, Corey Thompson, and Malik Gant on Saturday. Belichick is just trying to have a few open options on hand.

Patriots to use the best of their free agents

Dinson is 24. He was a team captain and three-year starter at safety for Auburn. He left the franchise as the leading tackler in 2019 right before joining the NFL. The 24-year-old spent his entire rookie season with the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions. He split his time between Matt Patricia and Brian Flores’ teams in the summer.

Onwuasor is a six-year veteran. He spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets. The 28-year-old signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent. He got a good role ended up getting a second-round tender. Onwuasor inked a deal with the Jets in 2020 and saw action in one game. The talented player sustained many injures and teams placed him on injured reserve. It wasn’t the best development for him, but he is happy right now.

Thompson spent two seasons in the league. The 27-year-old was part of the Buffalo BIlls. He was an off-ball linebacker and special teamer. Thompson split his time between the Buffalo Bills active roster and practice unit in his two teams with the franchise.

Gant is 24. Patriots fans know him really well. He spent the 2019 offseason with the Patriots but sustained an injury in the preseason finale. The team placed him on injured reserve. The player returned to the team in 2020, but they cut him to shrink the roster to 80 players.

New England has one open spot on the roster. Belichick keeps it for the best player option.
