Report: Lakers Made Offer to Big Warriors Free Agent

The Los Angeles Lakers have shown interest in one particular free agent. General Manager Rob Pelinka inked several players in the offseason. He brought Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, Kendrick Nunn, and a few other players to LA. Yes, LeBron James could really use some veteran power on the basketball court. But, Pelinka was able to find youth.

Nunn, Malik Monk, and Talen Horton-Tucker are under 27. Pelinka wanted more and he made an offer to Golden State Warriors free agent Kelly Oubre. Alex Kennedy of Bassketball News confirmed the news.

Oubre inked a two-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets. He will get $25 million in two years. The Lakers wouldn’t really make a similar offer.

This doesn’t change the fact that Oubre would have been an interesting addition for LA. He was averaging 15.4 points per game in 2020-21 but only shot 31.6% from three-point range. Oubre is a better option than Ariza, but he is a bit pricey.

LA is entering the new season with strong veteran power. Frank Vogel has everything he needs to make the big game.

Lakers got a solid free agent

Pelinka has three more roster spots to take care of at the moment. One of these spots is probably for Jared Dudley. What about the remaining two spots. Dudley’s situation is a bit messy now and the fans can’t make any prediction about his future.

The Lakers brought back Ariza and it was their first move in free agency. He had a key role in the 2009 season which made him a good option for LA. The good news? He is happy to ink with the Lakers again.

“Well, being here has always been something that I’ve wanted,” Ariza said after signing. “To be honest, there were only two places that I actually wanted to be, Miami being one, and L.A. being the other. But to be able to come back home, be with my family, be a part of this tradition is something that you don’t really get too many chances to do it twice.

“So when the opportunity presented itself and it was real I think it was the best opportunity and chance for me to come home, and I’m excited. I’m happy. I wanted to be here, I’m excited to play with all the players and to see what this team can do. Like you said, we’ve all played for a long time, we’ve all done things that are pretty amazing by just being in the NBA for this long, so to just see those minds come together and all these talents come together, I think that’s going to be amazing.”
