‘Mutual Interest’ Between Patriots and Former OC to Replace Josh McDaniels

The New England Patriots have to replace Josh McDaniels because he left the team to join the Las Vegas Raiders as their new head coach. This is a rather tricky situation for the Patriots. Bill Belichick lost a good assistant. McDaniels was brilliant with the Patriots in the last few seasons and this was his second stint with the team.

Bull O’Brien seems like the best replacement for McDaniels. Ian Rapoport from NFL.com reported that both the Patriots and O’Brien are interested in a potential deal.

O’Brien will work with a great offense. He will have to finish the job McDaniels started in 2021. The former offensive coordinator worked with Mac Jones and helped him unlock his true potential.

“As far as Bill O’Brien, the NFL’s process is slow,” Rapoport explained. “Everyone wants answers now, but the reality is the process is slow. So in order for the Patriots to hire Bill O’Brien — and I do believe there’s interest. I think there’s interest from them, and I think there’s interest from him, and a lot of times when that’s the case, these things end up working out.”

Patriots to replace Josh McDaniels with a familiar name

The Patriots may like O’Brien, but they will have to interview a few candidates. That’s what the NFL suggests.

“They have to interview multiple candidates,” Rapoport reported. “Have to interview candidates who are minorities. They have to go through all that. So we are not there yet, and I would say typically, the Patriots work very, very slow on staffing. Like, I can remember many times they would go to the combine (in early March) and not be set on staffing. So I’m not sure that will happen imminently, but I do believe there’s mutual interest. And honestly, it just makes a lot of sense for all parties.”

Brian Flores’ lawsuit will definitely make NFL teams more careful in the offseason. He accused the NFL and several teams for the situation in New York. The Giants got Brian Daboll, but Belichick congratulated Flores on his job. Yes, it was really messy. What’s the point? The Patriots wouldn’t make a mistake at this point.
