Report: Longtime Patriots Veteran Has No Plans to Retire

The New England Patriots may be parting ways with a few veterans in the offseason, but Brian Hoyer is not one of them. The Patriots veteran won’t retire in the near future and that’s really good news for his loyal fans. Here’s a nice question… Will the Patriots keep him? The 36-year-old is entering free agency.

Rookie quarterback Mac Jones did a wonderful job on the field, leading the team to a seven-game winning streak. However, he still needs a backup. Jarrett Stidham is in the mix, but he is not as experienced as Hoyer. There are so many questions related to his future with the Patriots. Jones may need an experienced backup/mentor mostly because Josh McDaniels is no longer available. The former Patriots offensive coordinator left the team to become the head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. McDaniels had a huge role in Jones’ development and now he is gone.

This is the biggest reason Patriots may have to keep Hoyer around.

Patriots veteran won’t retire, Bill Belichick has to keep him

Keeping a veteran quarterback is of utmost importance for the Patriots. Hoyer’s history with the Patriots is of great help, too. He knows the system and yes, he is a good fit for the Patriots offense.

Hoyer is nothing like Cam Newton. The former NFL MVP had a huge impact on the roster and the fanbase. The Patriots decided to part ways with him just because he would affect Jones’ self-confidence on the field. Bill Belichick really needs a veteran quarterback on his roster.

Jones had a really good season as a Patriots signal-caller and he is definitely keeping the starting job with the Patriots. Will Hoyer be his backup? There are so many questions we’d like to ask right now. New England has a good starting quarterback and this is the only thing that matters.

Jones earned his spot in the Pro Bowl and this speaks volume for his impact on the game. Belichick found a real gem in the 2021 NFL Draft because his rookie did better than any other quarterback of his class.
