LeBron James Takes Issue With Ex-Lakers Teammate’s Award: ‘Kind Of Stings’

LeBron James breaks a record every time he steps on the basketball court. He has won four NBA titles in his 21 years and is on his way to win a few more. However, there’s one particular award that doesn’t exist in LeBron’s portfolio.

The four-time NBA champion has made 20 All-Star appearances and has 19 All-NBA honors, three MVPs, but no Defensive Player of the Year awards. Yes, LeBron isn’t really happy about this.

“Defensive Player of the Year,” LeBron said on the latest episode of The Shop. “That’s the only award that I don’t have in my house. It kind of stings – I’ve talked about this before – it don’t make sense … the year I finished second in Defensive Player of the Year award, the guy who won didn’t even make First-Team All-Defense.”

LeBron also drew a comparison to Beyonce, reminding fans that she has the most Grammys in history, but no “Album of the Year” award. The Lakers superstar has six All-Defensive team honors and wasn’t a first-teamer just once. In the 2012-13 NBA season LeBron finished behind Marc Gasol. In the same season, LeBron earned a MVP award and also had All-NBA and All-Defensive team honors. When it comes to Gasol, it’s interesting to note that he didn’t earn First-Team All-Defensive honors in the year he won the DPOY award.

LeBron is the GOAT even if he doesn’t have a DPOY award

King James can easily transform himself in a defense machine whenever he wants to. He may be good on the defensive end of the game, but will probably retire with no DPOY awards in his portfolio. It doesn’t hurt his portfolio, but it would be nice to have one or two. LeBron considers himself the GOAT, but he sure feels bad about this hole in his portfolio.

The Lakers won the play-in game on Tuesday and will now get ready for the match against the Denver Nuggets. Skip Bayless believes that the Lakers can win this one. Let’s see what happens next.
