Peter King Lambasts Patriots’ Bill Belichick After 2022 NFL Draft

The New England Patriots had to cover a few holes on their roster this offseason. They lost J.C. Jackson and a few other key players in free agency. Head coach Bill Belichick entered the 2022 NFL Draft with a great plan, but his first-round move was pretty shocking. The Patriots traded down the draft and got Cole Strange with the 29th overall.

NFL fans were a bit shocked. Why would the Patriots get someone like Strange? He was set to be selected in the second round of the draft. Belichick needed receivers and cornerbacks. Why did he get a linebacker? Well, the Patriots head coach didn’t want to lose Strange to another team. He was a good pick and most teams would get him right away.

Bill Belichick played smart in the 2022 Draft

Peter King watched the Patriots get Strange and his reaction was expected. According to him, Belichick didn’t make a good decision. The Patriots had bigger issues to handle.

“Picking Cole Strange, a decent prospect from Tennessee-Chattanooga, 29th overall was a naïve move by Bill Belichick,” King wrote in his latest Football Morning in America column. “There was no indication he’d have gotten picked before New England’s next pick at 54; even if he was picked before then, so what?”

King used the opportunity to share a video of Strange and Travis Jones. The defensive tackle was a 76th overall pick for the Baltimore Ravens. Jones manhandled Strange at the Senior Bowl. Well, Belichick did the best for his team.

The Patriots had too many options but they decided to start the draft with Strange.

Strange is an excellent pick. He is super versatile and speedy. The Patriots could find great use for the player. Strange shared a video of his workout. Yes, Belichick had a few good reasons to pick Strange.

The Patriots have enough time to pull out a few more moves. They can get some players in free agency. Trading for players is also an option. The Patriots have a good roster and they only need a few more picks to pack the roster with talent.
