Patriots May Cut ‘Respected’ Veteran Because Of Bill Belichick Policy

Bill Belichick relied his success on his strict policy and the New England Patriots won six titles in his time with the team. Belichick knows how to pull the right move at the right time, but some players can’t really survive his policy.

Lawrence Guy hoped to get a nice deal with the Patriots, but Belichick may have other plans. Chad Graff from The Athletic discussed Guy’s current situation in the NFL and made a few comments about the 53-man roster Belichick plans to build this offseason. According to Graff, Guy “could be a surprise cut considering the Pats can save $3.3 million against the cap while only incurring $250,000 in dead money.”

Wonder why? Graff reminded everyone of Belichick’s approach towards players “entering their mid-30s.”

Phil Perry from NBC Sports Boston asked Belichick about Guy and his decision to hold out from mandatory minicamp. Guess what… Belichick didn’t reveal much.

“Whatever the issue is, you can talk to him about that. I’m not going to talk about contracts, personal situations, or injuries.”

Simple as that.

Belichick created his policy to help the Patriots win more games

Guy signed a four-year deal worth $24 million in 2021. It seems like he wants to get more than that.

“Guy, who has since changed agents, is believed to be looking for an adjustment to the contract after what sources had previously described as a challenging negotiation,” per Mike Reiss from ESPN.

The Patriots got Keion White in the second-round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He will probably have a key role with the Patriots. Christian Barmore will have a big role, too. Barmore enters his third season in the NFL and experts predicted a breakout season for him.

Guy tried really hard to fit in New England. He occupied blockers and helped his teammates make plays. However, Belichick can replace him in 2023. Let’s see what happens this offseason. Will Guy leave the team? Will he go somewhere else? We will have to wait for Belichick to make a move.
