Patriots’ Bill Belichick In Race To Avoid Unpopular NFL Record

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been around for years and he may soon break an unpopular NFL record. He joined the Patriots in 2000 and helped the team win six titles. According to NFL analysts, the Patriots head coach may soon become the head coach with the most lost games in league history against his name.

John Breech from CBS Sports reported that Belichick may break this record before he passes Don Shula for most victories all time. He said that the Patriots head coach may tie Jeff Fischer and Dan Reeves with 13 more regular season losses. Both coaches have 165 losses and Belichick has 152 losses so far. If you count postseason games, Belichick will need 13 more to pass Dallas Cowboys Tom Landry.

“The race is officially on: With Belichick 13 losses away from setting the record for most losses and 18 victories away from setting the record for most wins, it will be interesting to see which one he breaks first,” per Breech.

Belichick close to breaking the terrible NFL record

Belichick and Tom Brady built a dynasty and won many games together. The greatest quarterback of all time left the Patriots and joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning a title in his first season with the team. Brady’s departure had a huge impact on New England.

“In the three seasons since Tom Brady left, the Patriots have gone 25-25. They’ve also had a losing season in two of the past three years, which marks the only two times over the past 20 years that the Patriots have finished with a losing record under Belichick,” Breech noted.

Colin Cowherd and several other analysts discussed Belichick’s dominance over the years and his status following Brady’s departure.

“Belichick has one career playoff win without Brady, 10 total seasons, seven of them losing seasons,” Cowherd said.

The Patriots trusted Cam Newton for a year and then gave Mac Jones the keys to the offense. The Alabama quarterback did a good job in his first season with the team, but struggled in 2022. If you ask Asante Samuel, he will say that Belichick holds Jones back.
