Lakers’ Star Anthony Davis Makes NBA History With Contract Extension
The Los Angeles Lakers were close to winning a title last season and they are ready to do even better in the 2023-24 NBA season. The front office made some minor moves early in the offseason and also secured one of the top players. Lakers big man Anthony Davis signed a three-year contract extension worth $186 million and yes, made some huge headlines.
Davis has $62 million average annual salary which is the largest average salary following an extension. The big man is under contract through 2027-28, meaning he is not going anywhere in the near future.
Here’s the Anthony Davis extension breakdown.

“Along with LeBron James, Davis remains a cornerstone of a team that advanced to the Western Conference finals a season ago,” Adrian Wojanrowski wrote. “Davis…has averaged 25 points and two blocks in a season five times — the third-highest total behind only Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, according to ESPN Stats and Information research.
“During the 2023 playoffs, Davis became the third Lakers player with 50 blocks in a single postseason, behind only O’Neal and Abdul-Jabbar.”
Anthony Davis hyped by his contract extension
In 2022-23, AD averaged 25.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists per game with the Lakers. In his four years with the Lakers, Davis averages 24.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game with the team.
Davis has cemented himself in LA and he could easily become the lead player on the roster. LeBron James is not going anywhere either, but the big man will have to carry some of the load. He was brilliant in the postseason and Denver Nuggets players know it best. AD averaged 26.8 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in the Western Conference Finals against the Nuggets.
"One of the most talented players in the league."

Davis is 30, motivated, and most importantly, healthy, and he will enter the new season hyped by his new contract extension.
The Lakers did a good job securing their star player and fans can only hope for the better. AD is a winner and he would gladly win a few more rings with the Lakers.
