Patriots Trade Proposals Would Give 24-Year-Old ‘Upgrade’ At WR

The New England Patriots and most NFL teams could use an upgrade at WR early in the season. NFL teams entered a challenging season, but the Patriots have already lost three games. Is there a way to avoid another disappointing season?

It seems like the Patriots have already set their eyes on someone. Belichick could soon call the Denver Broncos and get Jerry Jeudy. The former first-round pick has been linked to the Patriots on many occasions. They wanted to get him in March, but Belichick was expected to give up on a first-rounder or a second-rounder and a player. It didn’t happen.

In 2022, Jeudy did 967 yards on 67 receptions. He is prone to injuries and has already missed a lot of time due to an ankle injury. However, Zack Cox from NESN believes that Jeudy is a sure bet.

“Jeudy played for a noted Patriots feeder program at Alabama, and though he’s never caught more than 70 passes or topped 1,000 yards in a season, he’s always been saddled with mediocre-at-best quarterback play. The 24-year-old also has an additional year left on his contract (his fifth-year option in 2024).”

Patriots may have questions about their upgrade at WR

Phil Perry discussed the chance to see Jeudy in New England and listed a few reasons Denver may have to send the WR to the Patriots.

“Would you trade a third-rounder away for him? That’s the high end of a compensatory pick that the Broncos could get for Jerry Jeudy if and when he departs via free agency,” Perry wrote. “I think that’s a realistic target, Dylan. I’m not sure he completely changes your offense, though, because he’s not a true boundary or vertical threat.

“He would give the offense another capable weapon, however, and he seems to do his best work out of the slot — which means if he was acquired, maybe it would be done to upgrade what Smith-Schuster is giving them in there.”

Jeudy would be a better option than Juju Smith-Schuster for sure. The latter was listed 83rd overall, per Pro Football Focus. He doesn’t look like someone who could stick in New England for a long time.
