HC Bill Belichick Set For ‘Mutual’ Decision On Patriots Future

Dianna Russini from The Athletic discussed Bill Belichick and his future with the New England Patriots. There is an ongoing debate whether the Patriots need Belichick or not. There’s another debate related to the Patriots’ QB controversy. New England has Mac Jones at starting quarterback at this point, but the Alabama quarterback may lose his job sooner than expected.

According to Russini, the Patriots and Belichick are all-in when it comes to “a mutual parting of the ways at the end of the season.” Russini came to this conclusion after “talking to those who have spent time around the Patriots organization and understand the dynamics between team owner Robert Kraft and Belichick.”

Fans have questions about Belichick and his future with the Patriots

Kraft is really disappointed this season. In this 30 years as an owner of the Patriots, the team has never had a 2-7 record.  The team owner may take this into consideration in the offseason. Kraft has been voicing his concerns for quite some time now. The Patriots made some mistakes in the last few seasons, picking players who didn’t contribute to the game. They do have the highest cap space this offseason, but Belichick has to make the best moves to get the best of the upcoming draft.

Russini added that the Patriots won’t make a decision at this point. Belichick’s position may be in danger. The Patriots have a terrible record at this point. If Kraft decides to replace his head coach, he will have to try really hard to find the best alternative. Just like Belichick is trying to find a replacement for Tom Brady. If the Patriots decide to cut ties with the legendary head coach, they will destroy the last bit of their dynasty.

Belichick has two roles with the Patriots. He is their head coach and also the de-facto general manager. Who is the next to replace him?

“Director of player personnel Matt Groh, 42, is the team’s highest-ranking official in the personnel department (besides Belichick), but he’s the son of Al Groh, a longtime friend and colleague of Belichick. It seems like that would make for a tough dynamic,” Chad Graff noted.
