Patriots Cut Ties With 3rd-Stringer Will Grier Amid QB Rumbling

The New England Patriots face one of the biggest challenges in team history. They had a few players at quarterback, but head coach Bill Belichick has yet to find his franchise quarterback. Mac Jones had the starting job with the team and Bailey Zappe was the backup. Will Grier was the third-string quarterback for the team. The Patriots lost too many games in the season and the decision to cut Grier didn’t come as a surprise for the team.

Many would say that Belichick didn’t even give Grier a chance to compete for the starting job. Jones struggled to make an impact and Zappe wasn’t the best option to replace him. They both have insane skill set, but they don’t really look like someone who could lead the team to a win.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to share the news of Grier’s cutting. Jeff Howe from The Athletic said that the Patriots will probably keep the suspension going until their upcoming game against the New York Giants.

“The Patriots’ decision to name a starting QB could happen as late as tomorrow morning before their game against the Giants, per sources,” Howe wrote. “Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe split the starting reps this week in practice and had relatively comparable performances.”

Patriots, NFL teams cut Grier without giving him a real chance to shine

The Carolina Panthers selected Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He started two games for the team and they let him go. Grier had a chance to show his true skills in his time with the Dallas Cowboys, but they let him go as well.

“Honestly right now, my heart and my mind is with Will Grier,” Prescott said, per ESPN. “So it’s a tough situation, honestly. Love that guy to death over there. Plays his a** off, comes in, prepares the right way each and every day.

Grier joined the Cincinnati Bengals practice unit and then ended up signing with the Patriots.

Where is he going next?
