Patriots Reportedly Considered Acquiring Giants QB Before Season

The New England Patriots struggled to find a decent replacement for Tom Brady. They tried several players, including Cam Newton. It was an unsuccessful experiment and head coach Bill Belichick decided to give Mac Jones a chance. He used a top pick to get the Alabama quarterback, but it seems like Jones is another unsuccessful experiment for the legendary head coach. Bailey Zappe was signed as a backup for Jones and the Patriots also had Malik Cunningham and Will Grier. They are both gone now. So, Jones and Zappe are the only QB options for the team. Do you know that the Patriots almost signed New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito?

Patriots players are gearing up for the upcoming game against the New York Giants. This game brought back an old story and Mike Garafolo provided has all the details. According to him, the Patriots tried to sign the Giants quarterback to their practice squad after they cut him in the final roster trimmings.

Patriots will go against the Giants QB they wanted

Getting DeVito made sense for the team as former Patriots assistant Bret Bielema was his head coach in college. So, yes, they had a chance to sign a familiar name.

What made DeVito an interesting option for the Patriots? The whole thing started when Belichick cut Zappe and Cunningham before re-signing them. They also claimed Matt Corrall off waivers from the Carolina Panthers back then. DeVito didn’t join the Patriots, and it was a good thing because he is not the No.1 quarterback for the Giants. They lost Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor to injuries.

The Patriots didn’t get him and their quarterback struggles are still making headlines. Belichick got rid of Zappe and will enter the Week 12 game with two quarterbacks.

We have a few good reasons to believe that Zappe won’t start the Week 12 against the Giants.

It’s another challenging game for the team and we wouldn’t make any conclusions. Everything counts at this point.
