Julian Edelman Assesses Bill Belichick Potential Chargers Fit

The New England Patriots won’t make the playoffs again this season. Mac Jones will probably lose his starting job and he may not be the only member to leave the Patriots organization. Head coach Bill Belichick may also lose his job and the Los Angeles Chargers have been named as potential suitors for the legendary coach.

To add fuel to the fire, the Chargers fired head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. It was an unexpected decision, but the team decided to part ways with both of them following the loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Belichick is a good fit for the Chargers

The Chargers are looking for a new head coach, and guess what… NFL analysts believe that Belichick could be the perfect fit for the team. The Chargers have tons of talent on the roster and Belichick would get a chance to coach a talented team. Well, they weren’t really able to make a change despite having Justin Herbert on the squad.

If you ask former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, he will say that Belichick won’t really leave the Patriots in the offseason. However, he did mention that Belichick would be a perfect fit for the Chargers.

“I think there’s only one defensive guy. I think Bill’s the only one you bring in, to bring to Justin Herbert,” Edelman told Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” on Friday. “You look at what Bill did for Tom early in his career. He taught him defense. When you get that cross-pollinating teaching that Bill is notorious, that can help him. I think he needs a leader. I think (Justin Herbert) needs someone to teach him how to win in the National Football League. Someone that has a template. Someone you feel always prepared.”

Edelman mentioned Jim Harbaugh as another option. He doesn’t believe that Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is a good coach for the team. Edelman mentioned a bunch of other options, noting that the Chargers would never go after young coaches. They need an experienced leader, just like Belichick.

The Kraft family will have the final word on this one.
