How Coach Bill Belichick Tiger Woods Story Totally Backfired With Patriots

Bill Belichick is the best head coach in league history and everyone knows it. He may not have the numbers Don Shula has, but his brilliance at the sideline made history. Belichick created a masterpiece every offseason and built monster rosters. He and Tom Brady set up the foundation of the Patriots dynasty and led the team to nine Super Bowl appearances. The Patriots won six titles and beat pretty much every team with minimum effort. However, Patriots fans will always remember one particular story and it involves Belichick and Tiger Woods.

Belichick knew how to motivate players in the locker room. There were no days off, but players got the best of their game on the football field. Belichick’s locker room pep talk hyped players, but he shouldn’t have mentioned Woods.

Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman shared details of this particular “pep talk” in his podcast appearance with Tom Brady and Jim Gray.

“(Belichick) laid out an hour-long presentation on why Tiger Woods is Tigers (expletive) Woods,” Edelman said. “(He said), ‘You guys are out in Vegas in the offseason. This guy is out hitting his seven iron. He’s at the green putting.’”

Belichick will always remember his Tiger Woods moment

Woods was a workaholic, but he got involved in a really big scandal. It was all over the news. Patriots players heard about it as well. As you may be guessing, it was a top topic in the next workout. Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss cracked a joke at Belichick’s expense. We have a few good reasons to believe that Belichick didn’t like any of it.

“All of the sudden, you here out of left field, ‘Hey Bill!’” Edelman added. “He knew exactly what it was. ‘How about Tiger (expletive) Woods?’”

“Belichick got Moss’d!” Gray said.

This was a rare occurrence in New England. Belichick had great memories with the team and fans will always remember him as the legendary head coach who led the Patriots to the top.
