Patriots Offer Contract Extension To $15 Million Free Agent Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots won’t really let all their players go. In fact, the team is already doing efforts to keep experienced players on the roster. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is one of them and the Patriots seem to be willing to give him a contract extension.

Andrew Callahan from The Boston Herald reported that Bourne can earn up to $7 million per season if he signs an extension with the Patriots.

Bourne has yet to make a decision on his future with the Patriots. He has attracted the attention of several teams, including the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Los Angeles Rams.

An ACL tear put an end to Bourne’s season with the Patriots. In the first eight weeks of the season, the veteran wide receiver delivered 37 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns.

The Patriots were pretty serious about re-signing Bourne and there is a progress in negotiations.

“According to a source, the Patriots initially approached Bourne about a possible extension shortly after he tore his ACL,” Callahan wrote. “Bourne visited the team facility two weeks ago for a checkup on his progress and met with team leadership, per sources.”

Receiver Bourne could agree to a contract extension

If Bourne returns to New England, he will be working under Jerod Mayo. He has no issues with that and is more than confident about their success as a team.

“You know seeing him there for three years, he’s always walked around the locker room with great energy, with a great attitude,” Bourne told Tom E. Curran in a sitdown in February. “I’m excited to see what he does. I think he’s going to bring great energy. I think it’s going to be a swag that hasn’t been seen before in New England.”

Bourne and his teammates will have a chance to go back to winning. He is ready to win and so is Mayo.

“I felt like we were in a rebuild. That’s how I felt, it was a rebuild the three years I was there,” Bourne said. “I loved being part of that and setting the foundation, and I think it’s going to take off pretty soon. I want to be part of the take-off, in a sense. I’m excited for the new chapter and I would love to be a part of it. I definitely have unfinished business.”
