D’Angelo Russell inked a four-year contract worth $117 with the Golden State Warriors this offseason. Warriors’ star Steph Curry gave his thoughts on the new teammate.
When asked about Russell’s contribution to the team while Klay Thompson is out due to an injury, Curry was precise.
“He’s amazingly talented
and skilled,” he responded. “He’s
got creativity in terms of ballhandling, the way he sees the floor. And,
obviously, he can shoot lights out. So, he’ll give us a different look, in
terms of somebody that can have the ball in their hands and create offense. You
know, we’re going to need that playmaking ability. We’ll be balanced and work
off each other really well.”
What will Russell
bring to the Golden Stat after Thompson recovers completely?
take a different look. But I’m excited about the opportunities, man … There’s
obviously unknowns that we’ll need to work out — rotations and things like
that. But just in terms of what he can do with the basketball in his hands, I
can’t wait to see the show.”
Curry, Russell and Thompson
can build a lineup, and it’s actually possible that they score from that point.
“Sure,” Curry said of the possibility to build a lineup with Russell and his injured teammate. “I mean, you get creative in how you mix on matchups and try to create good offense during the entire game. I think, even defensively, there’s a lot of talk about that, and our size, or what not. But the competitive fire will come out, and at the end of the day you find ways to get it done.”
Russell averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game for the
Brooklyn Nets. He is a perfect addition for the Golden State now that they will
play without Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala. Curry isn’t worried about the
loss of Durant, and Russell will help him cope with Thompson’s absence.
The Warriors dynasty is still alive, and Curry doesn’t pay much attention to those who say it’s over. The team lost the NBA Finals to the Toronto Raptors, and they are off to another win.
