Edelman Has New Nickname For Tom Brady After QB’s Stretching Display

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wasn’t active in the team’s loss to the New York Giants, but we saw him doing some serious stretches on the sidelines. Wide receiver Julian Edelman was there, too. So, the quarterback asked Julian what was so funny about his technique. Edelman has a nickname.

Edelman responded in the most brilliant way ever.

“I don’t know Mr. Miyagi you tell me,” the receiver wrote on Twitter.

Brady and Edelman have the perfect relationship on the field, and the receiver still remembers the first time he met the GOAT.

“The first time I met him was my rookie year, 2009,” Edelman said. “We just came in after rookie minicamps and when you’re a rookie you’re carrying around — back in that day, 10 years ago — you have a six-inch binder. Now everything is on iPads, but you’d run around with a six-inch binder, get to meetings 10 minutes early. Guys are strolling in, you know, the veterans, 30 seconds before. Like, they know what’s going on, but when you’re a rookie, you don’t know.

“I’m going into a meeting and right into the doorway Tom, like, runs into me and he goes ‘Hey, I’m Tom.’ I like almost drop my book and I’m like, ‘Hey, uh, nice to meet you, Tom. I’m Jules.’ He goes, ‘Hey, I heard a lot about you. Excited to have you on the team.’ It was definitely a frightening experience for me.”

Jason McCourty knows it too.

“You see the bromance at times, you see the fiery looks they give each other sometimes if someone messes up. Just that look of not disappointment, of just like ‘get it together.’ I think it’s almost like brothers,” McCourty said. “They’ve probably played together for so long but as a defender, it’s so fun to go against in practice because you’re not getting a better look than that. Tom at quarterback, Jules in the slot or wherever he’s lined up. Two of this game’s really, really good combination that have been doing this for numerous years.”
