Antonio Brown Addresses His Release From The Patriots In A Flurry Of Messages After Sexual Allegations

Antonio Brown’s time with the New England Patriots was too short for us to say anything about his future. The wide receiver was cut Friday, and he delivered series of messages on Twitter to address the release.

“Some people try to destroy you precisely because they recognize your power,” he wrote at 4:10 p.m. “Not because they don’t see it, but because they see it and they don’t want it to exist.”

Here’s what he wrote in the next two hours.

4:14 p.m.: “Thanks for the opportunity appreciate @Patriots.”

4:20 p.m.: “If I’m lying then I’m flying.”

4:22 p.m.: “Thank you.”

4:23 p.m.: “The marathon continues.”

6:03 p.m.: “Just got fired on Friday.”

“Antonio Brown was released today by the New England Patriots, and is currently an unrestricted free agent,” the NFL’s statement read. “Our office is presently investigating multiple allegations, some of which are subject of pending litigation. We have as yet made no findings regarding these issues. The investigation is ongoing and will be pursued vigorously and expeditiously. As long as Mr. Brown is a free agent, placement on the Commissioner’s exempt list is not appropriate. If he is signed by a club, such placement may be appropriate at any time depending of the investigation. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, he may also be subject to discipline if the investigation finds that h has violated the law or league policies.”

Prior to his release, the lawyers of Brown’s second accuser released a statement to thank the NFL for “moving swiftly and decisively.”

“We thank them for moving swiftly and decisively,” the accuser’s lawyers said in the statement. “The NFL has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation under its Personal Conduct Policy. We will cooperate fully with the NFL in this investigation to ensure that the threats and intimidation against our client cease, and that she and her family remain safe.”

According to sources, the NFL warned Brown to stop texting his second accuser.

The Patriots released Brown Friday, and the lawyers released a second statement.

“’The NFL and the Patriots clearly took our client’s concerns seriously. She wanted the threats and intimidation to stop and we hope that will be the case. The NFL has assured us that regardless of Antonio Brown’s roster status, it will continue to investigate all claims regarding his behavior.

“’We are gratified that the NFL recognized that it has an important role to play in policing player conduct that is sexually harassing and threatening.’”
