Patriots Injury Report: Three Ruled Out, Five Questionable Against Jets

The New England Patriots will play against the New York Jets with a few questionable players. Some of their key players are out for the game as confirmed by the injury report.

The Patriots ruled wide receiver Josh Gordon and tight ends Ryan Izzo and Matt LaCosse out for the Week 7 game against the Jets. Gordon has knee and ankle injuries, Izzo suffered a concussion, and LaCossee has knee issues. When it comes to questionable players, five names were added to the list.

Receivers Julian Edelman (chest), Phillip Dorsett (hamstring) and Gunner Olszewski (hamstring), running back Rex Burkhead (foot) and safety Patrick Chung (heel/chest) are rules questionable for the game.

Olszewsi was a full participant in practice this week before being listed as limited participant on Saturday.

Undrafted rookie Jakobi Meyers is the Patriots only fully healthy wide receiver. Ben Watson and Eric Tomlinson are tight ends. These two joined the team this week, and Watson was re-signed following his release and the suspension.

Dorsett missed the game against the New York Giants. He said that the Patriots will put him on the field. Burkhead has been out since Week 4. Chung left the game against the Giants in the first half, and didn’t come back.

The Patriots will play without defensive end Michael Bennett. He earned a one-week suspension following a heated argument with defensive line coach Bret Bielema.

According to Mike Reiss, the Patriots are winning this game. “Undrafted free-agent wide receiver Jakobi Meyers will record his first career touchdown pass,” he reported. “The Patriots project to lean more on Meyers with Josh Gordon (knee) ailing and Phillip Dorsett II (hamstring) hoping to return after having missed the Week 6 win over the Giants. Testing the Jets’ depth at cornerback figures to be part of the Patriots’ plan.”

Rich Cimini believes that the Jets will give Tom Brady a headache. “The Jets’ blitz schemes will cause problems for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who has struggled the past three weeks when throwing under pressure. That will be enough to keep the game close, but the Jets will have major issues with New England’s man-to-man coverage schemes and won’t be able to keep up offensively. Sam Darnold will learn a hard lesson about quarterbacking against a Bill Belichick-coached defense.”
