NFL Insider Reports Troubling Details About Julian Edelman’s Knee Injury

The New England Patriots played Sunday’s game without veteran wideout Julian Edelman and he is recovering from his knee injury. The veteran had a procedure to fix his knee, and fans are already asking questions about his return. Head coach Bill Belichick is optimistic about Edelman’s return to the field, but the situation doesn’t look really well right now.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Media reported that the situation of Edelman’s injured knee is “bone-on-bone.” New England placed Edelman on injured reserve Saturday, and Patriots hope to see him back later in the season. The timetable for Edelman’s return is still in question.

“… He had knee surgery late this week on a knee that really has been bothering him the entirety of the season,” Rapoport said on “NFL Gameday.” “From what I understand his knee is bone-on-bone, so he had surgery to clean some things out and (there) is some discomfort. Based on the IR rules this year, he’s out at least three games. Coach Bill Belichick said he expects Edelman back this season. I talked to several people close to him (Edelman), they have their doubts on if that is the case. Either way, if he returns this season, he is going to be doing it on a knee that still hurts.”

Julian Edelman to take more time to recover from his injury

Edelman has been dealing with the same issue for years. He is pretty tolerant to pain, and he actually played through pain in the last two years. However, the wideout had to solve the problem. Rapoport’s report will definitely trigger an avalanche of reactions. Will Edelman ever be the same again?

Prior to his knee procedure, the wideout was able to catch 21 passes for 315 yards in 2020. He wasn’t too great in the last four games and caught just eight passes on 21 targets for 79 yards.

The 2018 Super Bowl MPV took to his Instagram account to share his expectations for a “major comeback” from his “minor setback.” When will Edelman return to the field? We don’t know. Time will tell. Patriots fans need to be patient right now.
