Chris Simms Details ‘Obvious’ Path For Jimmy Garoppolo To Patriots

Is Jimmy Garoppolo making his way to the New England Patriots? There’s been growing speculation about the potential Garoppolo-Patriots reunion. Well, the San Francisco 49ers have to release the quarterback first. They don’t look too interested in cutting the veteran. However, the 49ers are also eyeing the quarterback market.

Earlier this week, a NFL reporter said Garoppolo is Bill Belichick’s Plan A at quarterback.

“From what I gather from talking to people this week, over the past week, Jimmy Garoppolo still is far and away their Plan A,” Greg Bedard said on “The Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast” earlier this week.

Jimmy Garoppolo to join the Patriots

This topic has been making headlines for the past few weeks. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said Garoppolo was the Patriots’ starting quarterback of the future. But, his comments didn’t shut down the rumors.

NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms shared his scenario on Garoppolo’s signing with the Patriots. First, the New York Jets will have to draft former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson at No.2. New York would then send Sam Darnold to San Francisco.

“Now, New England and the 49ers also have history together. (Kyle) Shanahan and (Bill) Belichick, we know there’s a respect thing there. It’s been widely documented. So I think when you connect the dots right there — it’s almost like too obvious not to think it’s going to happen, honestly.”

Garoppolo had great success as a signal-caller for the 49ers. However, he sustained multiple injuries during his time with the team. Is Garoppolo the next veteran to replace Tom Brady? He was a backup quarterback in the past. Garoppolo knows pretty much everything about the Patriots and their system. Belichick has to make a lot of decisions this offseason with the first one being Garoppolo.

Let’s see how will the Patriots finish the offseason. Belichick is determined to rebuild the roster and make the playoffs in 2021. He has several valuable options at this point. This year’s draft is packed with talents and Belichick has a chance to get a top prospect.
