New England Patriots End Up With Three Top Players In ESPN Free Agency Simulation

This offseason may be of big importance for the New England Patriots. The team missed the playoffs in 2020, and head coach Bill Belichick will try to fix the damage. According to ESPN, the head coach will swing for the fences. ESPN surprised everyone with their Patriots free agency simulation.

2020 was really disappointing for the team. The offense struggled, and the roster had too many holes. The good news? New England has plenty of cap space to address the problem. Belichick has around $60 million to get the players he needs in the offseason.

ESPN did a simulation of free agency and named the options for a few top free agents. According to them, Belichick will get wide receiver Kenny Golladay, tight end Jonnu Smith and edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

ESPN suggests that the Patriots would offer Golladay a five-year deal worth $105 million with $50 million guaranteed. This is a rather reasonable contract as he is one of the best wideouts on the market. New England has to bolster the receiving unit and Golladay seems to be a good option for the team. There’s one major problem. Will Golladay even consider joining the Patriots? They added Matt Patricia to the coaching staff. His hiring may be off-putting for the receiver.

ESPN added a tight end to the Patriots free agency simulation

Smith is a top tight end option in 2021 after Hunter Henry. ESPN has Henry signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. 2020 was a breakout season for Smith. He was great with the Tennessee Titans. According to ESPN, the Patriots will offer him a four-year deal worth $42.5 million with $25 million guaranteed. It may seem like a steep price, but the Patriots offense makes too many mistakes without a strong tight end play in the passing game.

Ngakoue may sign a four-year deal with the Patriots. This deal would give him $60 million with $30 million guaranteed. The player would be the biggest reach of this group, especially if Belichick thinks he can solve some of the problems in a cost-effective way by re-signing Kyle Van Noy. Ngakoue is one of the best players in his group. He is a good addition to the Patriots roster.
