Patriots Potential Draft Pick Has Some Serious Weight Concerns

The New England Patriots will enter the 2021 NFL Draft with great plans and they will probably make the right pick. But, will they try to get a player who is 166 pounds?

This leads us all the way to Alabama star and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. He weighed 166 pounds as confirmed by NBC Sports’ Albert Breer. He shared totals from the Indy medical combine earlier this month.

We all know that 166 pounds is too thin for the NBA and the Major League Baseball. The NFL is not even an option now. Smith has been linked to the Patriots on multiple occasions in the past few weeks.

The Patriots may not get the draft pick

New England needs a playmaking receiver. Head coach Bill Belichick has an excellent relationship with Smith’s college coach Nick Saban. His friendship and the player’s ultimate-gamer attitude are the reasons you have to believe he is the right fit for the Patriots.

But, some experts are a little worried about his weight.  These people do believe that Smith can become a Hall of Famer. But, his weight is a matter of concern at the moment.

The weight general triggered an avalanche of reactions on the internet.

B/R Gridiron has a theory. And a few options.

Eliot Schorr-Parks dismissed the weight and pointed toward Smith’s college production. He is more than impressed with the player.

Kyle Dvorchak of Rotoworld cracked a joke on Smith’s size.

Devonta Smith’s draft position heavily depends on the stadium he’ll be playing in. Sub-170lbs, he could easily be swept away like a plastic bag or tumbleweed in a windy stadium. Detroit is indoors but we could lose Smith to the elements entirely in a winter storm at Green Bay.”

The New England Patriots have great plans for the future and the current roster looks really great. 2021 will be a big year for the Patriots nation. They missed the playoffs in 2020. Belichick won’t go through the same again.
