Cam Newton got people worried with his practice absence. The New England Patriots released a statement about this particular absence.
Why did Newton miss his practice? It doesn’t seem like he will be gone long.
New England released a statement on Newton. His absence has nothing to do with an injury or an off-field issue. According tot his statement, Newton won’t join his teammates until Thursday. There was a “misunderstanding about (COVID-19) tests conducted away from NFL facilities.”
Unvaccinated NFL players are forced to stay outside facilities for five days. Newton hasn’t received the COVID-19 vaccine which is probably why he has to miss more time.
Newton is the Patriots’ starting quarterback. For now. Many believe that this development will affect his future in New England. Will this absence open the door for Jones? Drew Bledsoe and Tom Brady had a similar destiny.

“On Saturday, Cam Newton traveled to a Club-approved medical appointment that required him to leave the New England area. He received daily COVID tests, which were all negative. Due to a misunderstanding about tests conducted away from NFL facilities, and as required by the NFL-NFLPA protocols, Cam will be subject to the five-day entry cadence process before returning to the facility. Cam will continue participating virtually in team activities and return to the club facility on Thursday, August 26.”

The New England Patriots will have their final preseason game in Sunday. They will meet the New York Giants and this will be the last exhibition game for Jones. He will have to try really hard to beat Cam Newton in the quarterback battle. Things will get a lot clearer in Week 1.
Belichick said Newton will start games unless someone performs better than him. The 2015 NFL MVP did an amazing job in the preseason.
