3 Reasons Lakers Must Trade for Zion Williamson This Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers have a terrible record at this point of the regular season. General Manager Rob Pelinka may make a move to reshape the roster. Of course, there’s a rumor suggesting that LeBron James wants to replace Rob Pelinka with Sam Presti. The Lakers made a couple of big trades in the last few years. First, they traded for Anthony Davis. Second, they got Russell Westbrook. AD struggles to stay healthy. He was good in his debut with the Lakers, but he wasn’t a dominant force in the next couple of years. When it comes to Broddie, he didn’t meet expectations. The Lakers should make a move and trade for a promising star such as Zion Williamson.

Truth is, the Lakers really have a few reasons to trade for Zion Williamson

  1. A ray of hope for the future

Williamson could keep the dynamics alive. Pelinka will grab a first-rounder in 2026. Lakers players were plagued with injury and the team has to come up with a backup plan. Williamson can make things a lot easier with a trade request. Trading Davis for Williamson? Does this make sense?

2. Increased marketability

Williamson is a popular guy. He was popular long before the New Orleans Pelicans got him. He has a nice platform, and yes, that’s what the Lakers need at the moment. Putting Williamson in a purple and gold jersey could be a game-changer for the Lakers.

3. Success on the floor

The Lakers have lost a lot of games this offseason. They will probably end up in the play-in tournament again. Beating a rival won’t be that easy given that they lost the game to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Enter LeBron’s age. He will have to retire at some point. What if the Lakers don’t get his son Bronny in the NBA draft? LeBron would love to retire as a Laker. However, he tried to make sure everyone takes him seriously. LeBron wants to play with his son. In other words, he can leave the Lakers without a second thought. The front office has to plan the future.
