Patriots Defender Supports Reported Ja’Whaun Bentley Extension

The New England Patriots were pretty quiet in the last couple of weeks. However, Bill Belichick made some big moves in the last couple of days. The Patriots re-signed DeVante Parker and Ja’Whaun Bentley earned an extension with the team. Patriots defender Adrian Phillips was really happy for his teammate.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Media was among the first to confirm that Bentley signed a two-year deal worth $18.75 million with $9 million in guaranteed money. Bentley was a Patriots captain for second time in 2023. Will he have the same honor again? Phillips would probably support this idea.

“Yessirrrrrrrrr!” the Patriots safety reacted to Rapoport’s report.

Bentley worked hard to earn his contract extension

Bentley secured his spot on the Patriots roster with his great performance in the past few seasons. The team selected him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He led the Patriots in tackles in 2021 and 2022.

Patriots players like their teammate and respect his experience and skills. Bentley is a true leader and yes, he was the right person to replace Dont’a Hightower in the Patriots locker room.

Patriots trust Bentley and this extension is the best evidence. Linebackers coach Jerod Mayo has nothing but words of praise for Bentley and he really showed everyone that the veteran is a respected player in New England.

Mayo praised Bentley’s skills on defense. His speed and strength helped the Patriots beat tough opponents. Bentley has everything a great player needs. We all hope he stays with the Patriots for a while.

“You saw the season that he put together last year,” Mayo said. “He is very smart, knows the entire defense. He’s fast, big, strong at the point of attack. He’s just a great player. … With the loss of Devin (McCourty), it’s going to take multiple people, but what I will say is that Bentley will be a huge cornerstone to that rebuild.”

The Patriots are expected to make more moves this summer. Who is the next to sign a deal with the team?
