Mike Onwenu Reveals Plan For Patriots Future Ahead Of NFL Free Agency

The New England Patriots are expected to make major changes in the offseason. They could make changes in the coaching staff and will definitely adjust the roster. Some players will leave the team to make room for new names. Mike Onwenu is entering free agency in Marc and he has something to say about it.

According to his recent comments, Onwenu wants to stay put. Sophie Weller from A to Z Sports shared his words, revealing the true reason behind his desire to play with the Patriots.

“Its really where I built myself, turning into the person that I am. They took the opportunity on me, drafting me in the sixth round,” Onwenu told Weller. “So I always like to, not necessarily prove doubters wrong, but I like to prove myself right. I always like to put my best foot forward and just prove that I’m supposed to be here and I am here.”

Onwenu also believes that the Patriots will try to keep him around. There hasn’t been much negotiation between him and the team.

The Patriots selected Onwenu in the later rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. He became one of the key players on the roster. Onwenu played both guard and tackle and had great performance with the team.

Onwenu has questions about his free agency

Losing Onwenu to another team would be a big blow for the Patriots. He is a key player and the team should really offer him a good paycheck.

“From my agents, they said there haven’t really been much talks,” Onwenu told Mike Reiss from ESPN. “There has been communication, but there haven’t been any offers or any contracts that were sent. It’s kind of just a waiting game to see how it goes.

Onwenu would love to play with the Patriots and he would definitely love to have Bill Belichick as his head coach. He is the best to ever do the job after all.

“Yeah I would like him to stay. I mean, it suits him. I don’t see him anywhere else,” Onwenu said.
