Patriots ‘Never Got Any Calls’ About Potential Trades For Pro Bowl Duo

The New England Patriots could easily use a few trades at this point, but head coach Bill Belichick didn’t really change his roster ahead of the trade deadline. The team will remain unchanged and now we have a new update on the situation. Albert Breer from The MMQB reported that the Patriots didn’t receive any calls about Mac Jones, Ezekiel Elliott, and other potential trade candidates. In other words, the Patriots didn’t trade either of these players because there was no interest in their skills.

Jones struggled early in the season. He was great in the win over the Buffalo Bills, but this is just another average season for the Alabama quarterback. Former Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Bill O’Brien claim that Jones hasn’t unleashed his full potential yet, but Belichick benched him a few times this season. The young quarterback struggles again and several NFL analysts believe that the Patriots are better off without him.

Belichick didn’t make any moves, meaning he is fine with the roster as it is. Breer noted that the team is “hanging on to young contract-year guys Josh Uche, Kyle Dugger, and Mike Onwenu.” These three have key roles with the Patriots and Belichick actually used them to rebuild the team. Uche and Dugger were set to help the team build a strong defense.

The Patriots head coach respects Dugger and the performance he throws every night. Belichick didn’t reveal much about Dugger’s future with the team, but keeping him around says much about it.

Patriots could have made the trades

Let’s go back to Jones. He has nine touchdowns and eight interceptions so far. Fans expected a different outcome, but it didn’t happen. The Patriots average 6.2 yards per attempt and their passing game is mild.

Greg Bedard from the Boston Sports Journal says that Jones has issues on and off the field, adding that he is “all over the place. He is like a jitterbug. He’s just unsettled, like, all the time.”
