Patriots Elevate Quarterback Before Game Vs. Chargers

The New England Patriots will go against The Las Vegas Chargers and it looks like Mac Jones has lost his job as a starting quarterback. It may be a one-game change, but it is definitely raising questions. Head coach Bill Belichick decided to give Bailey Zappe a chance to go at center.

Talented Zappe made a big promise to his head coach. He promised to deliver a big performance when given a chance to start at quarterback. He was a backup for Jones in each game so far. Belichick benched him in multiple occasions, but Zappe failed to play his best football.

It seems like the Patriots are willing to give him a chance to see if he could become a solid quarterback. Zappe has great skills and talent and he has everything a player needs to become a starter. He accepted great responsibility and now he has to do what he knows best.

Jones didn’t see any reps in practice this week. Zappe and Malik Cunningham worked on the practice field and this leads to the following topic. Cunningham was elevated to the roster and he will be a backup for Zappe. Is Jones in trouble?

Patriots try other quarterback scenarios

The Patriots confirmed that they are elevating Cunningham from the practice unit for the upcoming game. He was the third quarterback in the unit and now has a chance to be a backup for Zappe.

Cunningham hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game and has seen six snaps. The Patriots can give him a chance to be both quarterback and a wide receiver. If Zappe struggles to perform in the game, Cunningham could step in as a leading quarterback during the game.

Patriots have been dealing with this issue for quite some time. They need a solid quarterback and if these three fail to improve, Belichick will have to look for a signal-caller somewhere else. The Patriots will pick a player in the top 5 of the 2024 NFL Draft and they can definitely get a quarterback.
