Patriots Made Decision To Fire HC Bill Belichick After Germany Game

The New England Patriots are eliminated from the playoffs at an early point of the regular season. This hasn’t happened in the last 30 years which puts Bill Belichick in a rather uncomfortable position. The Patriots head coach sat on the hot seat a couple of seasons ago and nothing changed in the meantime. According to several analysts, the Patriots plan to fire Belichick after the end of the season.

It’s interesting to note that Belichick signed a contract extension with the team in the summer. It was a good deal, meaning the Patriots can use him as a trade asset at some point. We do not really think that Robert Kraft would let Belichick go that easily, but it seems like the organization has made a decision, per an NFL insider.

Patriots could fire Belichick after all

According to recent reports, the Patriots decided to fire their head coach after the 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany. This loss was probably the last drop and the decision has been made.

Patriots insider Tom E. Curran discussed this decision and his comments make sense.

“When they came out of Germany, conversations I had that week made it very clear that a decision was made,” Curran explained. “They were going to play out the string, and at the end of the year there would be a parting of the ways, for a variety of reasons.”

“You don’t fire Bill Belichick during the season. It’s just not gonna happen. Additionally, though, he’s an asset. He’s under contract for another year, which we reported after NFL Media reported there was a long-term extension in place that would keep Bill locked up long-term. It’s only through next year, so that would not be an impediment to them changing course, and it had gone too far.”

The Patriots did win a game following, but it wasn’t enough. Belichick has been around for over two decades and now he has to go.

The Germany game, The Commanders game, the Saints game: all huge marquee games, and there was the Chargers game after that,” Curran concluded. “Just because they won last week in Pittsburgh in prime time, I don’t think it quells anything.”

Patriots players made too many mistakes and the result is here. Some of them will have to go, and the same goes to the coaching staff. Is Belichick really leaving the Patriots?
