‘Door Isn’t Shut’ On QB Mac Jones Returning To Patriots In 2024

Mac Jones has just completed a disappointing season with the New England Patriots and many believe that he won’t be part of the team in 2024. The Alabama prospect looked like a top option for the Patriots three season ago, but it didn’t happen. Jones turned out to be a disappointing quarterback despite his great talent. Some would say he is not a good fit for the Patriots. Fans are not too happy with his performance or the lack of it. The Patriots have yet to make a decision on Jones’ future with the team.

Mark Daniels from MassLive discussed Jones’ performance in the last three years. He had a good performance in his first season with the Patriots, but his second and third years with the team were frustrating. Is Jones responsible for the mess? Maybe it’s former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Coach B is out now and this may be a game-changing factor on Jones’ future with the team. Jerod Mayo stepped in as his replacement and maybe he will be the one to find a solution to this problem.

Daniels claims Jones could stay with the Patriots in 2024

According to Daniels, Mayo’s new role as Patriots head coach could make a difference.

“The relationship between Belichick and Jones ended so poorly that sources all but guaranteed Jones wouldn’t be back with the Patriots had Belichick returned,” Daniels wrote. “With Jerod Mayo now in charge, the door isn’t shut, sources agreed.”

Daniels added that the Patriots may not pick up Jones’ fifth-year option, meaning the former first-rounder could end up on the trade block really soon. Well, if the Patriots don’t get a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, they may leave Jones on the roster. They could use their picks to upgrade their receiving unit or add an offensive tackle.

Mayo will have to decide whether Jones deserves another chance before making another move.
