Patriots Mac Jones Linked To Super Bowl Contender Amid Trade Rumors

The New England Patriots found a true gem in Mac Jones a few seasons ago. Well, that’s what it looked like back in the days. Jones was a brilliant rookie and had better performance than any other prospect in his class. His great performance was turning heads and Jones earned words of praise. Things didn’t go well in his second year with the Patriots and the same goes to Year 3. Jones has been linked to several teams now and trade rumors are louder than ever.

NFL analysts believe Jones needs a change in scenery. Many claim that he cannot thrive in the current Patriots offense. Former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels helped Jones unleash his potential. Jones couldn’t bond with Matt Patricia in 2022 and even Bill O’Brien couldn’t help him in 2023.

James Palmer from NFL Network shared comments made by coaches. According to them, Jones would have won a few titles with the San Francisco 49ers by now. They have Jimmy Garoppolo, Brock Purdy, and Trey Lance on the roster. The Niners selected Lance with the No.3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, right before the Patriots got Jones with as 14th overall.

San Francisco has won a title and made three NFC Championships since 2021. So, yes, Jones would have a ring by now.

Patriots to get a late-round pick if Jones trade rumors turn into reality

The Patriots have a chance to trade Jones to San Francisco and get a late-round pick. Mark Daniels from MassLive reported that they can receive a fourth or fifth-round pick for the Alabama quarterback. San Francisco could use Jones as a backup which makes sense at this point. Their quarterbacks are prone to injuries and they need another option as a backup.

Jones may be a bad choice for the Patriots, but NFL teams have shown great interest in getting him. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network reported that the Patriots have been receiving calls for their struggling quarterback. Many teams need a backup quarterback heading into the new season. This includes the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and a few others.

There’s another realistic scenario for Jones. The Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings could lose their starting quarterbacks in the offseason.

“They think if he [Kyle Shanahan] took Mac at three, they would have won multiple Super Bowls by now,” Palmer said on the podcast.
