Colin Cowherd Sums Up Patriots’ Win Over Steelers In Three Words

The New England Patriots showed everyone that they play the best football in the NFL. Their Week 1 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was a short reminder for their doubters. The Steelers are their greatest rivals, and they had no chance against Tom Brady and his team. Colin Cowherd sums up the win in three simple words.

“Tthat was frightening,” Cowherd said Monday on FS1’s “The Herd.” “I think this is New England’s best defense in a decade. Josh Gordon looked good, Phillip Dorsett looked good, Brady looked good. I mean, they didn’t even play Damien Harris. Lord. I think you’re going to see that played out about seven, eight more times in the next eight or nine weeks. New England is absolutely loaded. What a defense.”

Signing Antonio Brown was a big challenge for the Patriots. It was followed by a major controversy, and the NFL is opening an investigation into the sexual accusations against Belichick’s new receiver. But, Cowherd, says Brown is really unpredictable.

“I never try to predict what unpredictable people are going to do. I’ve never quite understood Antonio Brown. If I was a talented as him and as fast as him I would have stayed with Big Ben and the Steelers. He wasn’t happy and I don’t understand it. They win games, they win their division, he made a lot of money, he scored a lot of touchdowns, and Big Ben is arguably the best deep ball thrower in the NFL… I tend to stay away from trying to predict people that are unpredictable. I know what Russell Wilson is thinking about in the morning; family and football. I know what Tom Brady is thinking about in the morning; family and football. With AB, I give up. I’m more Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, and Calvin Johnson.”

When it comes to ratings, Cowherd believes that the Patriots will have to work on several aspects of their game. They may win the Super Bowl again, but there are some gaps they should consider filling.

“New England Patriots, I think by the end of the year they could be the best team. I don’t think they’ll be the best team early,” Cowherd said Tuesday on FOX Sports 1. “They lost David Andrews, the center. I’m sorry, that’s a big deal for New England. He calls the audibles. I think their wide receiver group could be good, but it’s really choppy. Josh Gordon just arrived, (Julian) Edelman was out for most of camp, Demaryius Thomas was out then cut — he’s back. N’Keal Harry, who I think could be a really good wide receiver, he’s on the IR. Gronk (Rob Gronkowski) retired, Chris Hogan’s gone. They’re a running power team now more than I ever remember, but I don’t think their O-line and their receiving group will be settled. They open with Pittsburgh, that’s no day at the beach. So if they have a choppy September, don’t be shocked.”
