Report: Patriots Have Made Calls About Trading Into Top 5 For 1 Quarterback

The New England Patriots have to be really aggressive in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. The teams signed several players in free agency. Head coach Bill Belichick addressed the biggest problems New England had in 2020. They decided to give Cam Newton another chance. The 2015 NFL MVP signed another one-year deal with the team. This doesn’t mean that the quarterback will go under center in September. Let’s not forget that Jarrett Stidham is still here. Belichick may put this two into a competition. According to recent reports, the Patriots may be trading for a quarterback.

This year’s draft is packed with talent. Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones, Justin Fields… They are all part of the game.

Several NFL teams need a quarterback at the moment. This includes the Patriots, too. The team signed Newton to a deal, but he won’t stay around for long. Newton is not the quarterback of the future and every fan knows it. The Patriots signed Newton to a cheap deal and this gives us a good chance to believe that Belichick will pick a quarterback in the first round.

The Patriots may be trading for a quarterback prospect

The Patriots head coach may trade up into the top 10 to get one of the best prospects at the position.

Dianna Russini from ESPN reported that the Patriots have talked to an organization in the top 10. Russini also suggested that veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore may be involved in the trade deal. Gilmore was a subject of too many rumors and Belichick may place him on the trade block.

The Atlanta Falcons have the No.4 pick in the draft. They talked to the Patriots and the situation may end well for both teams.

Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported that the Patriots have targeted Justin Fields. He may be the best option for the Falcons at No.4. However, the Falcons may not get a quarterback early in the draft. The Carolina Panthers stand at No.8. Atlanta has been linked to tight end Kyle Pitts, too.
