Signing This Free Agent Would Help Fix Patriots, Per Insider

The New England Patriots have a few good reasons to rebuild the roster in the offseason. Some of the players will become unrestricted free agents, leaving Bill Belichick’s roster with a few holes. Losing these guys will be a big blow for the Patriots. Yes, JC Jackson is one of them. According to Jeremy Fowler, another free agent could really fix the Patriots roster.

Many would agree that Jackson is the best free agent on the roster right now. The Patriots didn’t plan to use the franchise tag on him which makes things really awkward. The cornerback was really devastated when the Patriots didn’t approach him to offer a contract extension. They mentioned something like that in the regular season but didn’t start off negotiations.

Free agent to fix the 2022 Patriots roster

Jackson thought that the Patriots lost interest in him. Maybe they have. Fowler would bet on Carlton Davis.

“I’ve got a bit of a surprise. Wide receiver would be the easy pick here. I’m gonna go Carlton Davis, the cornerback,” Fowler said on “Get Up.” “So, you’re swapping out Davis for J.C. Jackson. He’s a great player. Jackson’s going to do very well on the open market, but I just never got the sense that the Patriots were all in on keeping him. They’re not going to franchise tag him. Meanwhile, Davis is gonna go to a spot where he can play a lot of man coverage. That plays to his strength — big 6-foot-1 corner. He’s gonna do well there.”

Davis is nothing like Jackson, but the Patriots can get him through a cheaper contract. His stats aren’t really wild, but hey, he can be a good option for the team in case Jackson goes somewhere else. Jackson is well aware of his potential and he is becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. He will try to get great money for that. If you ask the veteran, he would say that being the highest-paid cornerback is always a good idea. We have a feeling that Belichick won’t spend a lot of money on Jackson.
