Robert Kraft Initial Plan For HC Bill Belichick Exit

The New England Patriots are slowly approaching the end of one of the worst seasons in team history. They have won just three games so far and the Kraft family is frustrated by the outcome. Team owner Robert Kraft didn’t like the fact that his scouting team struggled to build a strong roster. Patriots drafted top picks, but got out of luck. Almost all picks struggled to make an impact. Numerous analysts believe that Kraft considers firing Belichick after the end of the 2023 NFL season.

A recent report suggests that the Patriots will move on from Belichick at the end of the season. It is the most shocking report so far in the season. The Patriots made the decision to fire Belichick after the embarrassing game in Germany, per these reports.

Kraft could not predict that firing Belichick would be an option

Dan Graziano from ESPN delivered another not-so-surprising report. According to him, the Patriots didn’t enter this season with the plan to fire Belichick.

“Sources close to the Patriots believe Kraft’s plan entering this season was for Belichick to coach two more seasons and have Mayo take over in 2025,” Graziano wrote. “Belichick entered the season needing 18 wins to catch Shula for most career victories (regular season and postseason combined) among NFL coaches, and the thought was he could get that done in two seasons.”

Mayo is the perfect replacement for Belichick. He makes sense for the Patriots. We’d add that he will face serious competition for the job. If Kraft decides to move on from Belichick, he could consider replacing him with former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel.

We would not jump into conclusions at this point. One thing stands for sure. Kraft has plans for his future, but he has yet to make an official decision. Belichick accomplished a lot during his time with the Patriots and all players stand by him. If Belichick is on his way out, the organization can use him as a trade asset as he is under contract.
