Patriots ‘Expected To Pursue’ 8-Time Pro Bowler To Help Sign QB

The New England Patriots are making big changes in the offseason. They replaced Bill Belichick and also released some of the players. As you may have noticed, the Patriots have yet to solve their quarterback issues. NFL analysts have released some realistic scenarios, suggesting that the Patriots can go after a Pro Bowler to get their franchise quarterback.

The Patriots offense struggled a lot last season. Patriots scouts will have a busy offseason and they do need to fill big holes on the roster. Jerod Mayo and his assistants are ready to get back on track and build a competitive team. Sources reveal that the Patriots have considered adding Pro Bowl veteran Tyron Smith.

The 33-year-old is part of the Dallas Cowboys at the moment but the team may release him in the offseason. Dallas selected him in the 2011 NFL Draft and Smith got the best of his time with the team. The eight-time Pro Bowler signed an eight-year deal with the team in 2014. Is he on his way out now?

Patriots could benefit from the experience of the Pro Bowler

If the Patriots want to get a strong quarterback, they need to sign someone to protect him.

Marc Daniels and Karen Guregian from MassLive reported on the Patriots’ interest in Smith.

“The Patriots would like to find a starting-caliber tackle in free agency,” they reported. “One name to watch is Tyron Smith, who earned second team All-Pro honors with the Cowboys last season. The 33-year-old would provide a short-term solution at left tackle and the Patriots are expected to pursue Smith when free agency opens.”

Getting Smith is a game-changer for the Patriots. It comes with great obstacles though. In 2022, Smith played just four games and in 2023 played 13 games. When healthy, he is one of the better left tackles in the league. In 2023, Smith had a 83.7 grade from Pro Football Focus and ranked No.4 of 81 tackles in the league. Yes, he looks like someone who can join Robert Kraft’s team.
