Lakers Keeping An Eye On Embattled Former Hornets Star

The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to several players in the past few months, but Rob Pelinka didn’t make any major moves. The Lakers general manager got a few players and experts say he should get a former Hornets star.

Shams Charania from The Athletic reported that the Lakers may consider signing free agent Miles Bridges. He has so much going on right now and the NBA launched an investigation in his domestic violence case.

“Miles Bridges is a restricted free agent, so he is eligible to be signed by any team,” Charania said on The Rally. “But, there is a league investigation ongoing, after he pleaded ‘no contest’ to a felony case. I’m told there are several teams, including the Lakers and Pistons, that are all monitoring his situation. And, waiting to see exactly what transpires with his conversations with Charlotte. Otherwise, he has a qualifying free agent that did expire, but he still remains a restricted free agent.”

Lakers could use the Hornets star on their defense

Bridges could be an excellent fit for the Lakers. He averaged 20.2 points, seven rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game last season. He shot 33.1% from deep and 49.1% from the field. The Hornets had great plans for his role, but things didn’t go the way everyone planned.

Would Bridges have a great season with the Lakers? He may be an excellent player, but the Lakers need someone who could help them handle their perimeter scoring. The veteran player ranked really high in the list of NBA forwards last season. However, he has a few issues to handle. Darvin Ham needs someone who can boost the offense.

When it comes to the defensive end of the ball, Bridges could be an efficient chaser. Basketball Index reported that Bridges ranked in the 67% for screen navigation and 64% when working as an off-ball chaser in the 2021-22 NBA season.

Pelinka and Ham have to solve their biggest problems, otherwise their season will end sooner than expected. Let’s see what happens at the trade deadline.
