Patriots Reportedly Haven’t Received Trade Calls On QB Mac Jones

The New England Patriots had a rough start to the regular season and things haven’t improved lately. The team struggled to make an impact except for the big win over the Buffalo Bills. Mac Jones found himself in the hot seat early in the season and several analysts advised the Patriots to trade the Alabama quarterback.

Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t part ways with the struggling quarterback in the offseason. It was more than obvious that he put another QB contest in training camp and Jones kept his job somehow. Belichick did bench Jones a few times and opted for backup quarterbacks. Jones managed to fix some of the damage, but Belichick never credited him for the win over the Bills.

The Patriots have a 2-6 record at this point of the season. Jones hit the rock bottom in rankings. He ranks 22nd in passer rating, 23rd in QBR rating, and 26th in interception rate. His inconsistency gave fans a big headache and he hit the bench twice.

New England has to fix the quarterback situation. Zappe was cut once so far and Will Grier has yet to see an action with the team. Malik Cunningham was waived and then added to the practice unit.

Patriots may wait before looking for a trade partner for Jones

Several NFL teams need a strong option at quarterback. The Minnesota Vikings have already done an effort to get Josh Dobbs. The Cardinals will get a late-round pick trade. Kirk Cousins will miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL tear. This makes Minnesota as a good destination for Jones, per some analysts.

Jones has one year left of his deal with the Patriots. He also has a fifth-year option for the 2025 NFL season. Will the Patriots exercise this option? Will they let him go? Will Belichick and offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien give him another chance? The Patriots got Jones for a reason. Let’s see how things turn for the struggling signal-caller.
